This February Butler is participating in the Books for Life Drive. The drive will end February 28.

The drive is collecting books to send to children all over the world, they are asking that only children's picture books be donated.

The books may be dropped off at the following locations: Butler's Student Union at either the El Dorado or Andover campus (5000 building north), EduCare Center at the El Dorado campus, near the reception area at the Andover campus (5000 building north) or any Dillion's store.

"To share our love by sending gently-used children's picture books to kids around the world and in the U.S. Also to share the joy of reading and learning with people in parts of the world where books are scarce. To teach the world to read and to spread hope," Joanne Farnsworth said about why event was set up.

The book drives goal is to collect 100,000 books by the end of February to benefit children in several countries-including communities in the U.S. where books are needed.

The book drive so far has been very successful. In 2009, over 95,000 children's books were collected and sent to Liberia.

"The Book for Life Children's Book Drive is a great thing to do. Those children's books, sitting in your attic, not being read anymore, can be enjoyed by children who don't have books, or have very few. Children around the world can be getting good use of them and learn to read. It's a good cause, an easy thing to do and makes a positive difference in the world," Farnsworth said.

The Books for Life volunteers would like people to spread the word! Tell friends and family. Donating used books to children around the world will help encourage children to read. If their are any questions about the Books for Life book drive, visit www.BooksForLife.org/BookDrive.
