When you think of a new year, what else comes to mind? New Year resolutions! Well, that always comes to my mind when I think about a new year.

Nonetheless, it is a great way to start off the year and it gives people a chance to change for the better. You can have one, two or maybe even ten resolutions!

I think setting resolutions and/or goals at the beginning of the year helps a lot. You can actually have something to work towards or look forward to throughout the year. Whether it's cutting pop and/or candy out of your diet, losing weight, helping out the community, or doing better in school... it is still a goal. The more you work on it to achieve it, the better you will feel about yourself when you accomplish it. It can improve the society, the enviroment or even yourself.

I actually have a few resolutions of my own. The first one is to focus more on school. I know it is difficult sometimes to keep focused on school, but after looking over my grade point average for my first semester of college, I decided that slacking off is definitely not worth it.

The second one is to focus on myself. I realized that if I am too busy being there for everyone instead of myself, I will never be happy.

Last but not least, trying to spend less and put things that I already have into more use. For example, instead of buying plastic bowls and/or utensils, I can wash and reuse the bowls and/or utensils I already have at home. I could also buy those recycle shopping bags so I don't have millions plastic bags around the house.

Having resolutions/goals can be nifty but it doesn't mean you have to have them. You can go on living your life just the way it was without thinking that you have to change. Some people have it good so they don't need to change anything. Some people have it bad enough to where they think a change is in order to live a better life.

Think about it, what kind of resolutions/goals are you setting for yourself? How is it improving your life as well as how it might have had an impact on society? Is it necessary to have resolutions? No, I don't believe so, but I just think it's a good way to improve yourself and change yourself for the better.
