The Grizzly women and men traveled to Dodge City on Wednesday to play the Conquistadors. The women tipped off first with a record of 6-6 going into the game and were heavily favored by many.
Alysia Hart, Goddard sophomore, got off to a rip-roaring start in the first half with 13 points and gave the Grizzlies a 31-24 lead at halftime. The second half started off a little rocky for the women as they let Dodge City back into it and almost tied the contest at 35.
Coach Mike Helmer called for a time-out to settle his team down and that's exactly what they did as he must have explained to them to get the ball to Hart, who was on fire. They moved ahead by double digits late in the second half and then put it in cruise control for the rest of the game.
The final score was 62-45. Butler won behind Hart's amazing career-high 33 point night. Abby Henning, Wichita freshman, had 11 points of her own.
Coach Helmer after the game said, "We have to do a better job of not fouling and not turning the ball over, but I'm happy to get a win and the third straight win in a row."
The Grizzlies moved to 7-6 overall and 1-0 to start conference play.
The Butler men went into this game at 9-2 and faced an 8-2 Conquistador team that was coming off of a three overtime game in which they won.
