Secrets to success

I believe success is a matter of will power. I believe that if a person is determined to achieve something, they will put forth the effort to do so.
Personal determination is an extremely important trait to possess. Because of personal determination I have had the ability to rise above various stereotypes, make a wonderful life for myself and overcome numerous obstacles which some might allow to kill any drive they possess to excel in life.
Granted, some of my views vary from the typical opinion of what is important in life. In my life, an A in whatever mundane math class I have to take next is not going to make or break my life, a B or C might just have to suffice. In my life, the biggest diamond on my finger or the newest car in the parking lot is not of importance, it is the sentimental value that I hold for each that proves to be significant.
The old thought of mind over matter has proved to be true in my life. Despite being told what I will and will not succeed at, I find myself clearing a new hurdle every day that many would say I couldn't.
Currently I am an 18-years-old who works full time and goes to school overtime. I started college a semester earlier than most of my graduating class, I live in my own apartment, pay my own bills and fix my own problems. Even though I, as most people do during their life, have experienced a lot of negative influences and been told that I would not succeed, I have.
I have succeeded because I know what I want. I have succeeded because I know that it takes hard work and determination to achieve anything worth having.
Many people make the mistake of attempting to make others happy throughout their life. We all want to make our parents proud and impress our loved ones but true satisfaction lies within making ourselves happy.
I may live in an apartment, but I love it there. I may have a brand new television but refuse to pay for cable because I spend my days at school, but the picture still looks great with basic channels. I have many hopes and dreams for the future and often find myself impatient to see where life takes me but, that is yet another obstacle to overcome.
Even though I am proud of all of the obstacles I have overcome and everything I have earned for myself, the truth lies behind all these. The truth is life is not defined by grades, awards or material items.
When I leave this world I do not wish that I will be remembered by what I had but by how I lived. I live to enjoy my life. I believe that when a person leaves this world, it is only right for him or her to be remembered by the impact they had on the lives of others and how they carried themself through the hardships of life. When you live your life, know that you are doing so in a manner that you can look back knowing you accomplished everything you want, without missing out on all the fun along the way.
