Riggs Schloarship to Benefits future students

A new scholarship is available for Butler County residents. This scholarship is the Mildred Riggs Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship came about when Mrs. Riggs died in '02. One of her memorials was for the Andrina chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in El Dorado and designated for a scholarship fund. Eastern Star invested the funds in CDs (an account that drawls interest), which at their maturity, were turned over to the Foundation and Alumni office. Mrs. Riggs was a member of the Eastern Star organization for 80 years. She started when she was just 18 years old.
"Students eligible for this scholarship must be from Butler County and that is the only requirement. The scholarship amount varies from year, to year, therefore the amount of students that we can help will also vary from year to year. This scholarship is easy to apply for as are all the Foundation scholarships. All a student needs to do is apply. The application can be found on the Financial Aid website, or in the Financial Aid office or the foundation office. The only criteria for this scholarship is to be a Butler County resident, so therefore, many people are eligible," Averie L. Nelson advancement assistant said.
