Watch out fine arts students, a new Lead Fine Arts Instructor is in the house.
Michelle McClendon, the new Lead Fine Arts Instructor, is from Fort Scott. She is married to Bret McClendon and has two daughters, Sydney and Josie. She chose Butler because El Dorado is a good place for her husband to find a job and she hoped that a full time position would be available for her.
"Butler is an exciting and invigorative place to be because there's always something going on," McClendon said.
McClendon attended Kansas State University (KSU). There she received a bachelor degree in Animal Science. She also got a Communication option, because KSU does not offer a minor program.
McClendon went back to her home town, Fort Scott, and worked on the town's newspaper as the Managing Editor. She received her masters in Communications at Wichita State University (WSU).
Before working at Butler, McClendon was working full time as a fill-in person at WSU. Then, she started working adjunct with Butler for two years.
McClendon's position as the Lead Fine Arts Instructor is not really a specific curriculum. It is mainly to support the other Fine Art Leads. McClendon is there to support leads, do the promotion of productions and make sure students on scholarship are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
"It's an adventure everyday. It's amazing how much there is to do," McClendon said.
McClendon accepted the position because she wanted to be a teacher. She wanted to inspire students, adapt to students needs, continue to grow as an instructor and to get more people to see, view and understand the arts. She also believes that being on campus keeps you young.
"She brings energy and a passion for the arts," Larry Patton, Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts, said. "She enjoys helping students reach their goals."
McClendon is looking forward to many exciting things this year. She is looking forward to the "behind the scenes" look of how all the productions work. She is also looking forward to working with the instructors in the Fine Arts division and working with the students because they have a lot to teach her.
