The Grizzlies are off to a quick start this year. Already having defeated Trinity Valley, the Butler Grizzly football team was looking to move to 2-0 and 1-0 in the conference. Who was standing in the way to do this: The Dodge City Conquistadors, who have already pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year. Beating sixteenth ranked Hutchinson 55-38.
For the Grizzlies to beat Dodge City, they had to shut down their star quarterback Omar Haugabook, who is a returnee from last years team.
The first couple of series for both teams got off to a slow start. However, Haugabook and the Conquistadors were the first team to put points up on the score board. Butler would bounce back however and tie the game up with a touchdown run from Daniel Anderson, Manhattan sophomore.
Things went slow from there. Neither team would score before halftime so the teams were tied 7-7.
Coming out of halftime, Butler would again come off to a slow start, but eventually bounce back. With some amazing catches from Anthony Parks, Olathe sophomore, and a couple of great runs by Anthony Bess, Wichita sophomore, the Grizzlies eventually won the game, winning 24-14. This moved the Grizzlies to 2-0 and 1-0 in the conference.
"Penalities definately hurt us," said Head Coach Troy Morrell. We are going to have to come together as an eleven man team.
Paul Eck, Andale sophomore, Butler's starting quarterback, would throw 13-28 with 147 yards and one touchdown. Daniel Anderson would lead the Grizzlies in rushing, running 14 carries for 78 yards and one touchdwon. Anthony Parks would lead the team in recieving, with four catches for 88 yards and one touchdown.
Butler played Highland on Sept. 10 at Highland. Results will be in Lantern.
