Students honored at fourty-third pinning for nursing program

Forty-three nurses were pinned at the 43rd pinning for Butler Community College's Nursing program.
The ceremony was held Dec. 16 in the gymnasium at Butler of El Dorado. The graduates have completed the Associate in Applied Science degree in nursing and are eligible to take the Registered Nurse licensure test in the state of their choice.
The graduates heard from Butler Trustee Wilma Howell.
She recently received health care from two Butler nursing students during a 22-day stay in an area hospital.
One of those giving care Howell's granddaughter, Holli Howell, who was among those being pinned at the ceremony.
Anita Mills, Butler nursing instructor, gave the keynote address and spoke about the difficulties of the program and the sacrifices each graduate made in order to be successful.
"You each had a dream and knew the reputation of the Butler nursing program," Mills said. "It does mean something to say you're a Butler Nursing graduate."
Two students received special recognition. Jeff Rinker was presented with an award from the Butler Student Nurses Association, while class president Tony Tonihka as honored for important contributions to the American Red Cross through his volunteer efforts.
Angela Dominquez, class vice-president, led the class in reciting the International Council of Nurses' Pledge.
